Dutch driver Max Verstappen of the Red Bull team won the 5th leg of the Formula 1 World Championship, the Miami Grand Prix.
The 5th challenge of the season was held on the 5.4-kilometer track with the same name as Miami, USA, over 57 laps.
Verstappen, the champion of the last 2 years, started the race with hard rubber tires unlike the drivers at the front.
After the “pit stop” on lap 46, Verstappen returned to the track with new tires 1.5 seconds behind teammate Sergio Perez and took the lead on lap 48.
Verstappen, who also signed the fastest lap of the race, passed the finish line 5.3 seconds ahead of Perez, reaching the 3rd race this season and the 38th race winner of his career.
Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso was third, 26.3 seconds behind the leader.
Increasing his score to 119, the difference between the leader of the drivers’ classification Verstappen and his closest follower Perez increased to 14 points. Alonso followed the Red Bull drivers with 75 points.
The 6th race of the season, the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, will be held on 21 May.
