With a 4-0 win against Pakistan, the German men’s national hockey team secured their ticket to the Olympic Games in Paris.
The German hockey world champions are going to the Olympic Games in Paris. In the semi-finals of the qualifying tournament in Oman, the national team easily defeated outsiders Pakistan 4-0 (2-0) and did the same as the women of the German Hockey Association (DHB), who had bought their ticket to France on Thursday.
Final on Sunday at the sports show
Tom Grambusch (11th) and Niklas Wellen (40th) scored from a penalty corner for national coach Andre Henning’s team, which will face the winner of the game between Great Britain and New Zealand in the sportingly insignificant final game on Sunday (5.30 p.m./Sportschau). Top striker Wellen (17th) and Justus Weigand (39th) with a dream goal scored the further goals from the game.
Germany, which reached the semi-finals of the eight-person tournament as first in the group, dominated the game from the start and left the world number 15. only a few chances. The only cause for concern was the potentially serious injury to Christopher Schütt – the Cologne striker badly bent his knee and then left the pitch limping. A diagnosis is still pending.
Successful qualification was considered a must for the team, which surprisingly won the World Cup title at the beginning of 2023. Germany missed their first chance to get a ticket to Paris in August – they only managed a disappointing fourth place at the home European Championships in Mönchengladbach.
