With a 2-0 home win against MSV Duisburg, FC Ingolstadt made it perfect to stay up in the third division. A conciliatory end to an otherwise messed up season.

The Schanzer started before the season with the aim of being promoted back to the 2nd Bundesliga. Now, in a failed season, two games before the end, at least the league could be secured. After the 2-0 win in the home game against MSV Duisburg, the Schanzer are eleven points ahead of the relegation zone with 44 points. It was also a tough evening for the Köllner team on Friday evening.

Civeja transforms the only chance

The first half offered little entertainment at the Audi Sportpark in Ingolstadt, but Augsburg loanee Tim Civeja scored the lead just before half-time (41st minute). The 21-year-old scored after a one-two with Doumbouya and a fine individual performance to make it 1-0. It was the only real chance to score in the first half.

Schmidt pulls the plug on Duisburg

Duisburg came out of the dressing room with a lot of momentum and pushed for the equaliser. Instead of the 1:1 Patrick Schmidt headed the 2:0 for the FCI after about an hour after a corner. This broke the resistance of the zebras. Duisburg hit the post through Hettwer in the final phase, but couldn’t pull himself together after that and was actually well served in the end with the 0:2. After the final whistle, Upper Bavaria was able to celebrate relegation with the fans.
