Victoria Carl has been part of the world leaders in cross -country skiing for years. Now she has to fear a long lock.

The German Olympic champion Victoria Carl has been positively tested for Clenbuterol outside of the competition. During a doping control, the forbidden substance was determined, as the German Ski Association (DSV) announced. The national anti-doping agency (NADA) has initiated a procedure.

For the 29-year-old, a possible ban would have far-reaching consequences: participation in the 2026 Winter Olympics would be practically excluded-it threatens the end of the career.

Carl himself explains that he has unknowingly took the remedy. According to a message from the DSV, she said: “I was sick, had strong coughing fits and took the medication on a medical instruction. I disclosed everything – I was not aware that a forbidden active ingredient is included. I very much hope that the circumstances will be understood and assessed fairly.”

The association sees responsibility for a Bundeswehr doctor. On March 26, this prescribed the Medication of Spasmo Mucosolvan at the winter military world games in Andermatt to treat acute spastic bronchitis. It has been failed to point out the doping -relevant ingredient or to apply for a corresponding application for medical exemption.

“The medical regulation was medically understandable, but organizationally incorrect,” said the senior medical officer of the military competitions. The athlete is not to blame – she rely on medical care as part of an official military competition.

The DSV, the Bundeswehr and Carl are now hoping for an individual case test by the NADA and an acquittal.

Carl has been part of the world leaders in the cross -country skiing. In 2022 she won in Beijing Olympic gold in a team sprint and silver with the season. At the World Championships 2023 and 2025, she also secured medals with the season – silver and bronze.
