The worst memories came back: Christian Eriksen collapsed during the game between Denmark and Ukraine. The Danish association has now been able to give the all-clear.
Five years after a dramatic incident in the European Championship game against Finland, Eriksen collapsed again on the pitch; the game in Odense was immediately canceled after the incident in the 65th minute when the score was 2-1 for Denmark. Teammates immediately called the team doctors and formed a screen around their captain. The spectators in Odense shouted loudly “Eriksen, Eriksen”.
Danish team doctor Boesen: “He was briefly unconscious”
Fortunately, the 34-year-old was able to get up again after initial treatment and walk on his own two feet to an ambulance that drove onto the stadium grounds, to the applause of the spectators and players. As Denmark’s association announced, Eriksen is doing well given the circumstances.
“He left the pitch under his own power. As far as I can tell, the pacemaker is working perfectly.”the Danish team doctor Morten Boesen is quoted in an initial statement from the DBU association. “He was unconscious for a short time, but came to very quickly and we were able to quickly establish contact with him. He now needs to be examined further in hospital to determine the cause of the incident.”
Eriksen needed to be revived in 2021
Eriksen, who has just been relegated from the Bundesliga with VfL Wolfsburg, suffered a cardiac arrest during the European Championship group game in Copenhagen in 2021 and was resuscitated. He was then given a defibrillator. Doctors had given the record national player the medical okay to continue his professional career.
