Nobody can get to him – actually. Pole vault star Armand Duplantis always outdoes himself. Now he was beaten for the first time in years.

The Swedish pole vault giant Armand Duplantis has not won a competition for the first time in almost three years and 40 victories in a row – and of all places in front of his home audience. The world record holder (6.31 m) had to admit defeat to the Australian Kurtis Marschall (5.90 m) at the Diamond League meeting in Stockholm with a distance of 5.80 m, which was out of the question for him, and came second.

World champion and Olympic champion Duplantis did not look fresh and made a failed attempt at his starting height of 5.60 m. Finally he broke twice at 6.00 m and was also unsuccessful in his last attempt over 6.05 m. The 26-year-old exceptional talent last failed to win in Brussels in July 2023 (fourth place).

The former vice-European champion Lea Mayer came in a strong fifth place over 3000 m in a good 9:13.67 minutes with the clear victory of the Moroccan Marwa Bouzayani (8:59.28).

In the discus throw, Marike Steinacker (Leverkusen) came in fifth place with Olympic champion Valarie Sion (USA/68.60 m) with 62.13 m, while three-time European Championship bronze medalist Shanice Craft (Mannheim) came seventh (61.88 m).
