At the end of the morning, residents of North Holland were surprised by the deafening sound of four F-35s of the Royal Netherlands Air Force. The fighter planes were spotted above Amsterdam-Zuidoost, Amstelveen and Haarlemmermeer. F-35s performed a so-called ‘missing-man formation’.
A missing-man formation is performed as a tribute to a deceased aviator. The Royal Netherlands Air Force held an annual memorial service for deceased personnel today.
The four F-35s flew over the former Soesterberg airbase where the service was held. One of the fighter planes symbolizes the deceased pilots and leaves the formation by flying steeply to the top.
Not unnoticed above North Holland
After the missing-man formation, the F-35s set course for Noord-Holland, crossing the control area of Schiphol. The low-flying fighter jets also did not go unnoticed in the province.
