The Wilfred Genee talk show VI Today broke through the barrier of one million viewers for the fourth time yesterday. The program thus remains a mega hit for John de Mol’s SBS 6.
SBS 6 has given up half of its prime-time programming for VI Today, and it’s proving to be a masterstroke. The men score much better than the programs that were previously broadcast at half past nine on the TV channel. Yesterday they broke the million mark for the fourth time: no less than 1.065 million people (20% market share) watched.
golden move
Regular guest Özcan Akyol, who was in two of the four episodes that scored more than a million viewers, understands the high scores. “There is a lot of fun. At M and Op1 you sometimes think: is it forbidden to laugh there or something? It’s so serious. You never know what to expect,” he says in a AD article about the enormous success of VI Today.
Angela de Jong speaks of ‘a golden move by SBS’. “Normally they regularly had programs there that barely attracted 400,000 viewers. The time of the show is also ideal. Half past nine is still prime time, there are still many people awake who want to watch TV before going to sleep and there is not much competition at that time.”
Most viewed talk show
The other current talk shows Op1 (946 thousand), Beau (838 thousand) and HLF8 (418 thousand) managed to captivate fewer viewers. At M’s time yesterday, Beijing Today could be seen; 1.2 million people watched that.
The most viewed titles at half past eight were Radar with 1.4 million viewers (23%) on NPO 1, Help My Man Is Klusser with 1 million viewers (17%) on RTL 4, Hunted VIPS with 888 thousand viewers (15%) on NPO 3 and URK! with 712 thousand viewers (12%) on SBS 6.
At half past nine it was Studio Peking, VI Today, the tail end of Help My Man Is Klusser and Nieuwsuur with 616 thousand viewers (11%) on NPO 2.
Viewing figures
Programs that did not reach the top fifteen ratings include Hart van Nederland (645 thousand), Lang Leve De Liefde (618 thousand), Shownieuws (473 thousand), Big Brother (316 thousand) and Deal or no Deal (206 thousand).
