Today Inside-hating Talpa boss Paul Römer, also known as ‘Baantjer junior’, is leaving John de Mol’s media company. “He will not have a successor. Says enough…”
It is the greatest success of all of Talpa: the daily talk show Today Inside, which always attracts a million viewers. And yet Paul Römer, one of the many bosses at the company, has shown several times that he really has no interest in the program at all. Incredibly strange and actually just a bit out of place.
Paul leaves
Paul, who is always called ‘Baantjer junior’ by the men of VI (a reference to his father who acted in Baantjer), is retired after five years as ‘Managing Director’ of radio and television. In that position, TV boss Frans Klein had to report to him, while he himself had to report to general manager Pim Schmitz and John de Mol himself.
The striking thing is that Pim Schmitz also leaves and is replaced, but Paul’s position – the link between the TV boss and the general manager – simply disappears. Tina Nijkamp, the former channel boss of SBS 6, told her about this analysis channel: “A bit painful for Paul himself, I think, because did his position mean so little?”
VI hater
In any case: Paul will not really be missed by Talpa’s biggest stars, the men of Today Inside. The bobo was very false about Johan Derksen and his friends, especially during the candle riot. The Talpa bobo was at the forefront of attacking the gentlemen on public radio: “Their way of making TV and discussing is no longer suitable for these times.”
And a little later VI simply continued. René van der Gijp then: “Paul Römer has said that he thinks our program is outdated. Well, I told him, with all due respect: Johan has achieved more in five months of this talk show than he has in thirty years. Why is he saying that?!”
Baantjer junior
Paul is disgusted that the men from VI always call him ‘Baantjer junior’, René knows. “Every time we had a meeting, Johan called him Baantjer junior. Then you saw him look like: that’s not possible, I’m the boss here. Hahahahaha.”
The new general manager of Talpa will be Joost Brakel. The other bobos will be missed, according to John de Mol. “Big thanks and appreciation to Paul, he has taken enormous steps in recent years to bring the company to the success it is today,” said the media billionaire.
