VfL Wolfsburg’s van de Ven agreed with Tottenham – FC Bayern beat out

Bayern & Liverpool outdone?

Tottenham Hotspur has so far invested 136.3 million euros in four players after missing the European Cup – two of whom were previously on loan. This puts the Londoners at the top of the international spending rankings this summer, but that’s not the end of it. How “De Telegraaf‘ reported, central defender Micky van de Ven from VfL Wolfsburg is likely to be the next player to join Spurs.

Accordingly, the 22-year-old Dutchman agrees with Tottenham on a contract until 2028, the portal relies on sources close to the club. The “Spurs” would have trumped Bayern Munich and Liverpool FC in courting for van de Ven. However, there is still no agreement with Wolfsburg.

At VfL, managing director Marcel Schäfer has recently confirmed several times that he has not yet received a concrete offer for a player. However, it is the club’s declared goal to discover young players like van de Ven, develop them and then sell them to bigger clubs for a lot of money. According to “De Telegraaf”, Wolfsburg want at least 40 million euros for the defender and thus the second highest income in the club’s history after Kevin De Bruyne’s transfer to Manchester City for 76 million in 2015. An agreement in the range of 35 million euros is also possible, then Edin Dzeko (37 million to City) and Julian Draxler (36 million to PSG) would be more expensive than van de Ven.

In an interview with “ESPN” in the Netherlands in mid-June, when asked about a possible participation in the European Cup despite missing out on international business with VfL, van de Ven said: “Maybe. I hope so. Of course I feel very comfortable in Wolfsburg. So I don’t mind playing another year in Wolfsburg. But if I have the chance to leave, I would like to do so.” His contract is actually valid until 2027. But a next step, according to van de Ven, “would be nice”.

Van de Ven tops pass and touch stats – next step “would be nice”

Van de Ven’s importance for the “Wolves” can be illustrated in numbers – and also why so many top clubs are interested. In his 33 league appearances, the defender made 1,666 passes in the current game, 1,471 successfully to a teammate according to “Opta” count – more than any other VfL colleague. 2,115 ball contacts are also a maximum in the squad. League-wide, van de Ven ranks in the top 20 with both values. No outfield player at VfL recorded more minutes on the field.

After Nmecha II, vdv will probably leave us. I think it’s a great pity if he changes after all, but unfortunately the logical consequence of missing out on the international places. But if you get a considerable sum of more than 40 million euros, then I even believe that you will try to lure Gosens to WOB and that would probably result in a chain of three. You will probably also need a strong DM. A lot is going to happen there…
