Coach Niko Kovac no longer has any great hopes of Paulo Otávio remaining at VfL Wolfsburg. The 28-year-old is out for the rest of the season with a syndesmosis tear. In addition, the Brazilian left-back has not been able to reach an agreement with the “Wolves” on extending his expiring contract in recent months.
“It’s not that easy. The club has offered something a few times, but it has been turned down. It’s a really tricky situation now,” said Kovac on Friday. “If you look at it soberly, you can say: you don’t get together. If you look at it on the human basis, if you do a bypass again, you could understand it. But that’s ultimately up to the player. Maybe the player doesn’t want to because he didn’t accept the two or three offers he had.”

Paulo Otávio came to Wolfsburg from FC Ingolstadt 04 in 2019 and has contributed five assists in 27 games this season. Kovac in particular would like to keep the Brazilian. According to a report by “Kicker”, VfL has long been looking for a replacement for him because the contract talks have so far been unsuccessful. The focus is on DFB player Robin Gosens (28) from Inter Milan.
The serious injury therefore comes at a bad time for Paulo Otávio: he cannot recommend himself for offers from other clubs in the next few weeks. And in Wolfsburg the door may close for him.
