VfL Wolfsburg starts preparation without Niko Kovac

Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg started preparations for the new season on Monday without head coach Niko Kovac, who for private reasons will only be on the training ground for the first time on Friday. Assistant coach Robert Kovac led the first practice session in the morning on behalf of his brother.

Kilian Fischer, Micky van de Ven, Aster Vranckx and Bartol Franjic, who took part in the U21 European Championship, were not yet in the game. There were three newcomers in Cedric Zesiger, Moritz Jens and Tiago Tomas. Lower Saxony are still interested in signing national player Robin Gosens (Inter Milan).

After two training camps and several friendlies, things will get serious for the north Germans on August 13 (3:30 p.m. / Sky), when the wolves have to play in the first round of the DFB Cup at TuS Makkabi Berlin. VfL’s first Bundesliga opponent on August 19 or 20 in the Volkswagen Arena is league newcomers 1. FC Heidenheim.
