Coach Niko Kovac from VfL Wolfsburg combined his joy at the important 3-2 win against VfB Stuttgart with extra praise for the winning goal scorer.
“In my opinion, Yannick Gerhardt always goes a little under the radar in the Bundesliga. He’s a very intelligent player, a very good footballer, a team player with a very good character. I’m particularly pleased that he scored the winning goal,” he said Coach.
Gerhardt scored on Saturday in this crisis duel in the Bundesliga in the first minute of added time to make it 3-2 for VfL. The 28-year-old midfielder was in the starting XI for the first time this season after suffering a serious knee injury during pre-season.
“That’s no more than three points”
“Coming back after a long injury break and scoring the winning goal in the 90th minute – there’s nothing better,” said Gerhardt. “Winning is never a matter of course – especially not in our situation.”
After their false start to the new season, Wolfsburg can now work with a little more calm. “We’re happy, we’re happy, but that’s no more than three points,” said Kovac. “It wasn’t all bad before and it’s not all great now.”
