After managing director Marcel Schäfer, the supervisory board of the struggling Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg also expressed its confidence in coach Niko Kovac.
He continues to believe in this team and this coaching team, said supervisory board chairman Frank Witter at the club’s Christmas party.
“At the moment we are clearly behind our own expectations and possibilities.” But he sees “a team on the pitch that wants to turn the tide together. I see a team on the pitch that is pursuing a clear plan. A team that shows a united character and steps in front of the whistling north curve,” said Witter.
The 64-year-old was CFO of the Volkswagen Group until 2021 and played for OSV Hannover in the 2nd Bundesliga until 1981.
The Wolfsburg team started this season with the goal of qualifying for the European Cup. In the Bundesliga, however, they are in eleventh place after just one win in the last eight games. In the DFB Cup last week they were eliminated in the round of 16 against Borussia Mönchengladbach.
