Bundesliga leaders VfL Wolfsburg have laid the foundation for the leap into the semi-finals of the Champions League.
In the quarter-final first leg at Arsenal, the two-time winner of the premier class only conceded the goal in the 89th minute to make it 1-1 (1-0).
Tabea Waßmuth (19) used the first Wolfsburg goal chance with a header in the Emirates Stadium, after which the guests withdrew. Arsenal kept getting better and had several big chances shortly after the break, but coach Tommy Stroot’s VfL fought back with passion and fight. Waßmuth and former Arsenal player Jill Roord hit the post in quick succession (61′). Carlotte Wubben-Moy finally managed to equalize.
The second leg will be played on March 31 (6:45 p.m. / DAZN) in the VW Arena in Wolfsburg, where the VfL men’s team usually plays. On Tuesday, the German champions from Bayern Munich lost their first leg against Paris St. Germain in the Allianz Arena 1:2. Juventus defeated Olympique Lyon 2-1 (0-1) on Wednesday.
