Niko Kovac is hoping for the return of regular goalkeeper Koen Casteels for the home game in the Bundesliga against FC Bayern.
“We’re assuming that we’ll be able to get the Koen done by the weekend,” said the VfL Wolfsburg coach after the end of the DFB Cup in Berlin. Lower Saxony lost 2-1 at 1. FC Union, Casteels was not there.
Pavao Pervan scored for the 30-year-old Belgian. The 35-year-old Austrian had not yet played a competitive game this season.
“Koen has a cold, he also has a fever. We didn’t want to and couldn’t take any risks,” explained Kovac.
With a view to the game this Sunday in Wolfsburg against the German record champions, Kovac also emphasized that with an infection you can never say one hundred percent what will happen in four or five days. “We’ll have to be a little patient.”
