VfL Wolfsburg: Expensive Blitz-Aus for Max Kruse at the Poker World Cup

After Max Kruse took a little break at the weekend to celebrate his wife Dilara’s birthday, the VfL Wolfsburg professional returned to the tables at the Poker World Cup in Las Vegas. An even bigger name in the football industry also tried his luck. But the duo didn’t have much to gain.

After Max Kruse used the last few days to celebrate his wife’s birthday and to enjoy the attractions of the US party metropolis Las Vegas, the man from Wolfsburg announced his return to the poker table on Tuesday night (CET).

“Here we go again. We still have almost a week ahead of us,” Kruse announced his next poker marathon at the World Series Of Poker (WSOP) on his Instagram channel, after taking part in several tournaments last week and made it into the money once.

Kruse first tried his luck in event number 28, a tournament in which the Pot Limit Omaha variant is played and which, with a buy-in of US$ 50,000, is one of the most expensive of the WSOP. “Let’s see what that will be like. I’m curious,” Kruse told his followers before the start of the tournament.

In the end it was nothing more than a short guest appearance for the Wolfsburg player. Kruse was the third player to drop out and ended up in 70th out of 72 places. Theoretically, he could have bought back, but the 34-year-old decided not to rebuy.

Instead of investing the next $50,000, Kruse immediately moved on to event number 28. The so-called “No Limit 2-7 Lowball” tournament is one of the cheap events with a buy-in of “only” $1,500 at the World Series. Here things went better for Kruse. After a few hours, he had almost doubled his starting stack of 25,000 chips.

In addition to Kruse, who has already invested more than 110,000 US dollars in tournaments at this year’s World Cup, another football professional made his guest appearance at the WSOP at the weekend: Superstar Neymar. The Brazilian has been a partner and ambassador of the online platform “Pokerstars” for years and can be seen regularly at the virtual tables.

In Las Vegas, Neymar invested his first $10,000 in a “limit hold’em” tournament. However, the Parisian clearly missed the money. He finished his first WSOP tournament as 58th of 92 participants.
