VfL Osnabrück turns game against Verl – and hopes for promotion

For a long time it looked as if VfL Osnabrück would drop points against relegation candidate SC Verl. But despite two deficits, the hosts at Bremer Brücke got the upper hand.

Second division relegated VfL Osnabrück has maintained its minimal chance of promotion in the 3rd division thanks to great morale. Coach Daniel Scherning’s team beat SC Verl 3-2 (1-1) despite two deficits.

Verl is threatened with relegation

In fifth place in the table, Lower Saxony (51 points) are now seven points behind the relegation rank occupied by Eintracht Braunschweig (58). Osnabrück, who have three wins from the last four games, have played two games less.

Marc Heider (85th) scored the winning goal for Lower Saxony in front of 10,000 spectators at the Bremen Bridge. Ron Berlinski (20′) and Aaron Berzel (67′) had previously brought the guests forward, Haktab Omar Traore (31′) and Sebastian Klaas (73′, penalty kick) equalized twice.

Coach Michel Kniat’s team from Los Angeles is still in 17th place and thus on a relegation zone. The saving shore is four meters away.
