VfL Osnabrück missed the leap up

Second division relegated VfL Osnabrück missed the leap into the promotion zone in the 3rd football league.

The purple-whites remained unbeaten in their seventh game since the turn of the year with a 1-1 (0-1) win at relegation candidate Viktoria Köln, but were unable to displace third-placed 1. FC Saarbrücken from the relegation rank. Cologne, on the other hand, increased its lead over the relegation zone to five points.

The hosts, who have been victorious for four rounds, took the lead after 30 minutes through David Philipp. Five minutes after the break, however, Osnabrück managed to equalize through Sven Köhler.

Osnabrück is one point behind Saarbrücken in the table, level with fellow relegated team Eintracht Braunschweig in fifth place. 1. FC Kaiserslautern, second in the table, has a further three points ahead and takes first place in the promotion table. With a cushion of twelve points on the Palatinate, 1. FC Magdeburg is at the top.
