At just 18 years old, Maximilian Herwerth is in central defense for VfB Stuttgart’s U19 team. The youngster also won the world championship title in Indonesia with the German U17 national team in 2023. As a reward, the Swabians have now given their jewel a “long-term” contract.
“We are pleased that Max has decided on the path we have shown and that we are looking forward to a long collaboration. Although Herwerth is still waiting for his debut with the professionals, he has already been able to train with the Bundesliga team under coach Sebastian Hoeneß and was on the pitch in the professional team’s test games against SpVgg Greuther Fürth and SV Wehen Wiesbaden.
VfB Stuttgart “offers young players top conditions”
Herwerth emphasized that VfB “offers young players top conditions to develop further. I would like to thank those responsible for the trust they have placed in me with the early contract extension. I would also like to thank all the coaches, supervisors and employees who have supported me on my journey so far “I will continue to work hard every day to improve myself step by step.”
The 1.91 meter tall defensive player has played 21 games for the Swabians’ U19s. He scored three goals. He has previously played 17 times (1 goal) for the U17s in the country.
The Stuttgart native played five games at the U17 World Cup, but was usually only on the pitch for a few minutes.
