VfB Stuttgart: Wohlgemuth on the whereabouts of Guirassy and Undav

Patience required from Undav

While media reports sometimes sing a farewell to Serhou Guirassy’s (27) time at VfB Stuttgart, sports director Fabian Wohlgemuth tries to use logic. What will happen next for Guirassy from January will at least be determined much earlier than the question of strike partner Deniz Undav (27). Here the Swabians’ hands are somewhat tied.

In the summer, both VfB and Guirassy had good arguments for extending their joint contract, as Wohlgemuth emphasized to “Sky”. In this context, the Stuttgart team bought the striker after a loan option from Stade Rennes for a cheap 9 million euros and granted the Guinean a release clause of a cheap (alleged) 17.5 million euros – a bargain, especially for the clubs in Guirassy’s desired league England.

But Wohlgemuth is certain: “Today the arguments that speak for us actually weigh even more heavily (than when the extension was extended last summer; editor).” Guirassy knows that the fans love him and that the team needs him. “And he also feels how everyone wants him to stay here with us,” asserts Wohlgemuth, who has been looking for a replacement for a long time. However, with 16 goals from twelve league games, the priority is logically for Guirassy to stay at least until the end of the season. Wohlgemuth said: “He is a very decent guy and none of that leaves him indifferent. So, we’re doing everything we can and it certainly won’t fail because of us.”

Clarity for VfB at Undav “will take another month or two”

Stuttgart’s uncertainty with loan player Undav is a little different, because it’s definitely a different club. So VfB “doesn’t have the greatest weight,” says Wohlgemuth, but rather Brighton & Hove Albion. They gave Undav a contract until 2026 and paid 7 million euros for the Achim native. But Wohlgemuth assures: “Dennis suits us, especially his temperament, and the issues outside the pitch are also very, very important to him.”

They are working on a common future, says Wohlgemuth, because Brighton is of course taking the time to follow Undav’s development. The VfB manager explained: “It will take another month or two before it is even possible to get things done in this regard.”
