The Bundesliga transfer window is closed, but this only applies to newcomers. Furthermore, players are allowed to leave clubs and switch to leagues whose window is still open. VfB Stuttgart is now making use of this fact.
According to information from “Bild”, Gil Dias will leave the Swabians in the coming hours. The Portuguese, who only came to Stuttgart in January this year, is about to join Legia Warsaw on loan. In addition, the Poles are said to have secured a purchase option in the amount of one million euros. VfB transferred exactly this sum to Lisbon at the end of January.
Accordingly, Dias is said to have already traveled to the Polish capital to complete the medical check. This is possible because the transfer window in Poland does not close until the evening of September 4th. A move to Saudi Arabia to Al Khaleej, which had been rumored in recent weeks, did not materialize.
Dias would even play European with Warsaw
Dias joined Stuttgart from Benfica in January 2023 and has appeared in eight games since then. He scored two goals. VfB trainer Sebastian Hoeneß is said to have told the 26-year-old in mid-July that he had no future in the Stuttgart jersey. So now it seems to come to an end “at the last minute”.
Going to Poland could well be worthwhile for Dias himself. The Portuguese is playing in Europe with Legia Warsaw this season. In the group stage of the Conference League, the 15-time Polish champions meet Aston Villa, AZ Alkmaar and Zrinjski Mostar.
Dias would be the fourth player to leave the Swabians late in the summer, after captain Wataru Endo, centre-back Konstantinos Mavropanos and full-back Borna Sosa. Nevertheless, VfB is doing well in the Bundesliga. After three games, the club already has six points.
