Sebastian Hoeneß led VfB Stuttgart from the relegation zone into the Champions League ranks. No wonder the coach arouses desire. Among other things, FC Bayern is said to have put out feelers. The chairman of the board, Alexander Wehrle, remains calm.
“It speaks for Sebastian because he is simply doing a fantastic job with his coaching team,” said Wehrle to “Sport1” with a view to the emerging interest in Hoeneß.
The coach’s contract with the Swabians is dated until 2025. Wehrle is not afraid of saying goodbye early. “We are in a very intensive exchange and I am very confident that he will continue to work for VfB in the next few years,” emphasized the VfB boss.
Hoeneß himself recently described the rumors in “kicker” as “confirmation of the work we are doing together here”. “I still have a contract that runs until 2025. That’s a long time for a coach. There’s not much to say about it other than that I feel very comfortable. I think that’s noticeable,” emphasized the 41-year-old.
Hoeneß a candidate at FC Bayern?
Hoeneß has been repeatedly traded to FC Bayern in recent weeks. “DAZN” made it clear in the winter: “I certainly won’t rule anything out. But it’s not an issue for me at the moment and I don’t think it’s appropriate to talk about it specifically.”
At the beginning of October, Bayern boss Jan-Christian Dreesen commented on the possible return of Hoeneß, who made the Munich reserves third division champions in 2020. “We’re watching its development. We’ll see what the future brings: Why not at some point! In the long term, you can never rule out something like this,” said the CEO.
VfB Stuttgart is the surprise team of the season. The Swabians have already got 46 points from 22 games and are now in the middle of the race for the Champions League places.
