The Bundesliga season started anything but optimally for VfB Stuttgart. After eight match days, the Swabians are still without a single win and are not in a direct relegation zone thanks to the better goal difference compared to Bayer Leverkusen. Will VfB soon pull the ripcord and sack head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo?
First of all, it was still quiet on the Neckar this week. The 44-year-old is preparing his team intensively for the home game on Sunday (from 7:30 p.m.) against leaders 1. FC Union Berlin.
After the game against the league leaders, there is another home game a week later – against bottom VfL Bochum. If Stuttgart were still without a threesome after ten games, that was probably it for the VfB head coach, several media recently reported unanimously.
According to information from the “kicker”, possible successor solutions are already being discussed internally.
VfB Stuttgart without a home win this season
The football teachers Adi Hütter and Sebastian Hoeneß, who were recently dismissed from Borussia Mönchengladbach and 1899 Hoffenheim respectively, are considered the supposed favorites should Pellegrino Matarazzo actually separate.
The American has been coaching the traditional club from the Ländle since 2020. After being promoted back to the Bundesliga, Stuttgart is now playing its third season in the top flight under Matarazzo.
However, VfB have never had to wait as long as this year for their first sense of achievement.
Especially in the home games, Stuttgart has so far fallen short of its own expectations. None of the four home games so far have been won, and only three goals have been scored. Against Berlin and Bochum, the club is now aiming for a turnaround in front of its own backdrop.
