Then it will probably soon really be 2nd league again. Schade would have thought Stuttgart learned from its mistakes.
So I maintain that any sports director can buy affordable talent with a (often unjustified) reputation. It’s obvious that the Mislintat model has stagnated, just by looking at the transfer window for the current season. Among other things, he got wild striker surprise bags that are now not scoring any goals. Don’t understand why people still see him as a great mastermind with an eye for brutal talent.
This season also heralded with Mislintat as a potential relegation season. In any case, before the season started, I guessed VfB was 17th, but I really hope it doesn’t turn out that way.
For VfB it’s more of an opportunity to take a few more consistent actions, as long as the board doesn’t mess it up, of course.
I actually don’t think Guirassy is a bad replacement for Kalajdzic. 4 goals in 10 games is not a bad rate either, plus a good, cheap loan model with KO.
I partially agree with you on the transfers. It is always claimed that Mislintat always got some talents cheaply, which were then later sold dearly, which resulted in the large transfer surplus of the VFB. That actually only applies to Kobel and Kalajdzic, whom he personally brought to VFB. Gonzalez and Mangala, for example, were at the club before him. Sosa, who will probably be the next multi-million dollar sale, was with VFB before Mislintat as far as I know.
So the hit rate for transfers is the same as for most managers and nothing unusual and there have also been expensive flops (Faghir and Müller, for example).
Nevertheless, he managed to rise with the VFB and bring in continuity over the years. That’s anything but easy for such a big traditional club.
My opinion of Wehrle is also very bad. You only have to look at Cologne under his direction. He seems to me like someone who wants to have as many offices as possible and wants to have a say everywhere, but at the same time he lacks the skills to do so.
I think under him, the VFB fans are afraid that the remaining stocks of the other Bundesliga clubs will be plundered by coaches and new players in the future and that many discontinued models will be signed. Creative (even if not always successful) transfers such as Silas will probably be a thing of the past.
