VfB Stuttgart targets Bayern Munich coach

So far, VfB Stuttgart has not presented a successor to the dismissed Pellegrino Matarazzo. Meanwhile, more and more potential candidates are being mentioned in the media. Now the focus is on FC Bayern.

As the “picturerevealed, VfB Stuttgart is courting Dino Toppmöller. The 41-year-old is currently working for the German record champions as an assistant to head coach Julian Nagelsmann. The tabloid newspaper names Sebastian Hoeneß (last at TSG Hoffenheim) and Peter Zeidler from FC St. Gallen as other candidates .

The name Hoeneß in particular has been circulating in the media over the past few days. With Zeidler and Toppmöller, “Bild” now brings two new trainers into contact with VfB Stuttgart.

However, the newspaper does not give the troubled Swabians the best chances with regard to the Nagelsmann assistant. After all, Toppmöller is a “player whisperer” at Bayern Munich and is said to be “highly valued” by his superior. Toppmöller and Nagelsmann have been working together for several years. In 2020, Toppmöller joined RB Leipzig and then followed the 35-year-old to FC Bayern in 2021.

VfB Stuttgart is taking its time

Now Klaus Toppmöller’s son is said to have been targeted by VfB. A decision is not expected before the next Stuttgart Bundesliga game against VfL Bochum (Saturday, 3:30 p.m.).

“Our goal is, quickly, the most accurate and best possible solution for another 1000 days, 100 games and not for one, three or five games,” sporting director Sven Mislintat said about the search for a successor to Pellegrino Matarazzo.

According to “kicker” there is “a kind of shortlist with four to five names” at VfB Stuttgart. The most recently traded Zsolt Löw (last assistant coach at Chelsea FC) and Domenico Tedesco (last at RB Leipzig) are said to be out of the running, according to consistent reports.
