VfB Stuttgart succeeds in liberating – Leverkusen goes under in Frankfurt

Mainz wins at Werder

With a thumping victory, VfB Stuttgart achieved the hoped-for liberation on the tenth day of the Bundesliga match. In the first game after the separation from coach Pellegrino Matarazzo, the Swabians celebrated their first win of the season with a clear 4:1 (2:1) in the basement duel against bottom VfL Bochum and moved up to 14th place in the table, at least temporarily.

Bayer Leverkusen meanwhile conceded the second defeat in the third competitive game under the new coach Xabi Alonso with the 1: 5 (0: 1) at Eintracht Frankfurt. The 2-0 (1-0) home defeat against 1. FSV Mainz 05 caused a disappointment for promoted Werder Bremen, who had a surprisingly strong start to the season. Even a two-time lead at 2: 2 (1: 1) in Wolfsburg was not enough for Borussia Mönchengladbach for their fifth win of the season.

4:1 against Bochum: VfB Stuttgart wins in the first game after Matarazzo is kicked out

VfB Stuttgart has stopped its sporting descent for the time being. In the first game after the separation from coach Pellegrino Matarazzo there was a 4:1 (2:1) against VfL Bochum. Under interim coach Michael Wimmer, the Swabians won the trend-setting duel against the bottom and left the relegation zone. Bochum suffered another setback after their liberation against Eintracht Frankfurt (3-0) last week.

After nine unsuccessful attempts, the passionate and by no means insecure VfB celebrated their first win of the season. After just three minutes, Silas’ converted penalty had the fans in the stands of the Stuttgart Arena cheering. Naouirou Ahamada extended the lead (22′). Simon Zoller shortened the lead for VfL (29′) before Silas added his second goal (64′). Captain Wataru Endo (71st) made the decision.

Bayer Leverkusen experienced 1: 5 dismantling at Eintracht Frankfurt

Hard times are already beginning for Bayer Leverkusen’s new coach Xabi Alonso after the 1: 5 (0: 1) at Eintracht Frankfurt. Three days after the Champions League defeat against FC Porto (0:3), the Werkself experienced a dismantling. In front of 49,700 fans, Daichi Kamada scored two penalties (45+4/72 minutes), Randal Kolo Muani (58′), Jesper Lindström (65′) and Lucas Alario (86′) for Eintracht. Piero Hincapié scored for the guests (56th), who caused both penalties and saw the yellow-red card around 20 minutes before the end.

Two Thuram goals are not enough: Gladbach 2: 2 in Wolfsburg

Wherever Borussia Mönchengladbach plays, there is always something going on at the moment. After the 1: 5 at Werder Bremen and the 5: 2 against 1. FC Köln, this time it was only enough for a 2: 2 (1: 1) at VfL Wolfsburg despite leading twice. As a result, Daniel Farke’s team failed to improve their place in the Champions League for at least one day.

Marcus Thuram gave Borussia the lead twice in the 13th and 47th minutes. VfL equalized twice with Yannick Gerhardt (43′) and Omar Marmoush (69′). That was deserved because Wolfsburg missed half a dozen more chances in front of 26,701 fans.

Füllkrug does not hit: Werder Bremen fails against Mainz 05

No Füllkrug goal, no Werder victory: The surprise team from Bremen and their top scorer suffered a setback against their new feared opponent. In the 0: 2 (0: 1) against 1. FSV Mainz 05, striker Niclas Füllkrug caught a used day like the entire Werder team and was therefore unable to collect any further plus points from national coach Hansi Flick in the fight for a World Cup ticket. Instead, Marcus Ingvartsen (36th minute) and Jae-Sung Lee (66th) scored in front of 41,000 fans in the sold-out Weser Stadium for the guests, for whom it was the third win in a row on the Weser.
