VfB Stuttgart reacts to explosive summer rumors

VfB Stuttgart’s search for a new goalkeeper is in full swing. Most recently, Yann Sommer and Alexander Nübel from FC Bayern were traded with the Swabians. VfB sports director Fabian Wohlgemuth now commented on the speculation.

At the end of June, “Bild” reported that both Sommer and Nübel were on a VfB Stuttgart shortlist.

“From the current perspective, that is very unrealistic,” Wohlgemuth classified the rumors to “Sky”. The sporting director added: “We deal with a lot of topics. At the moment these are topics that are far away. Now we’re going to sort ourselves out in the preparations. If we have to strengthen our position as goalkeepers, then we’ll go public and if we have facts have created, again.”

The goalkeeper position was a weak point at VfB last season. After Florian Müller left SC Freiburg, Fabian Bredlow is currently number one. He is complemented by the two young talents Dennis Seimen and Florian Schock.

Should Stuttgart actually get into poker for Yann Sommer, there is a threat of well-known competition. According to Fabrizio Romano, Inter is also courting the Bayern goalkeeper, whose contract runs until 2025.

A summer purchase for the Milanese would not be an insurmountable hurdle. As the “Bild” revealed last week, there is an exit clause in Sommer’s Bayern contract that would make a transfer easier.

Sommer and Nübel with no prospect of playing time at Bayern

It is unclear whether Sommer wants to leave Bayern at all. After the return of top dog Manuel Neuer, the Swiss will probably move to the second rank.

On the other hand, it is considered impossible that Nübel has a future at Bayern Munich. The former Schalke player was last loaned to AS Monaco for two years. He is returning to Munich for the new season. However, he will not find any prospect of playing time there.

A role as deputy Neuer is out of the question for him, a final farewell is imminent.
