VfB Stuttgart: Pablo Maffeo sold to Mallorca – ManCity collects

Market value recently increased

Pablo Maffeo (24) will not return to VfB Stuttgart. In return, the Bundesliga club collects a small fee for the full-back that has been loaned out so far. The Swabians still have to share the transfer fee with Manchester City at a not inconsiderable rate. Since RCD Mallorca managed to stay up in LaLiga, the former 9 million purchase remains in Spain. VfB confirmed the permanent change when asked by dpa on Monday. According to reports, a transfer fee of around 3 million euros is due.

According to previous reports, however, Stuttgart cannot keep all of the sum, which is also well below the market value, which has recently increased significantly. A few years ago, the “Stuttgarter Nachrichten” reported that VfB had agreed a share in a resale with Man City, whereby the English would receive 25 percent of the transfer fee. The Bundesliga club had previously received a rental fee of half a million euros.

The Mallorcans secured their place in the league with a 2-0 win at CA Osasuna on Sunday. The Spaniard Maffeo moved from Manchester City to Stuttgart in the summer of 2018. Since then, VfB had loaned him out to Spanish clubs FC Girona and SD Huesca. At RCD, the former junior national player only missed three championship games in the past season. With his missed breakthrough in Stuttgart and the recent loan to Girona (2019/20), his market value had fallen from 10 million to just 2.4 million euros within a year and a half. Now, at EUR 5 million, half of its high value at that time has been restored.
