VfB Stuttgart: Loans from Ömer Beyaz & Mateo Klimowicz should end

Turk back in VfB training

In the summer of 2021, VfB Stuttgart signed the Turkish talent Ömer Beyaz from Fenerbahce Istanbul on a free transfer and presented the then 17-year-old as one of the “most desirable players of his year”. After five brief appearances in the first year, the attacking player should get regular match practice at 1. FC Magdeburg in the 2nd Bundesliga this season. But now the loan should be terminated prematurely. And the Swabians are also anything but happy with the development of Mateo Klimowicz (22) at Arminia Bielefeld.

“We cannot be satisfied with the playing times of both players,” said the new VfB sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth on Monday at his first press conference in Stuttgart. “It is the case that we are talking to both clubs about bringing them back or lending them to others. I think we’ll find a solution in the next two weeks.” Beyaz has even started training again at VfB. The Stuttgart commented that the loan deal with FCM had not yet ended, but that negotiations were ongoing. In addition, they are talking to other clubs about another loan.

Note: This article first appeared on Transfermarkt on November 14th, 2022 and has now been updated with a club announcement about Beyaz and statements by Wohlgemuth.

Beyaz has only made four substitutions with the second division team this season, last appearing on the 5th matchday on August 19th. After seven games with 90 minutes on the bench, he was not even part of coach Christian Titz’s squad for five of the last five games. The sporting development of the attacking midfielder in Magdeburg is faltering.

Even with Klimowicz, who was accommodated at the DSC in Bielefeld on Deadline Day, the change of air did not bring the hoped-for success. On the eighth match day, the Buenos Aires-born attacking player was allowed to play from the start, but then lost more and more influence and was not considered by coach Daniel Scherning in the last five games.

In terms of market value, both Beyaz (now downgraded from €800,000 to €700,000) and Klimowicz (from €2m to €1m) were initially among the most valuable players at their loan club, but nonetheless languished on the bench. That had already surprised the former sports director of VfB, Sven Mislintat. “I believe that both have the qualities to play in Bielefeld and Magdeburg. They must have good teams there if both are not on the pitch,” the 50-year-old was recently told by the “picturequoted.
