Stuttgart has to make do without his tram goalkeeper against Master Bavaria. However, there is positive news from another Swabian service provider.
VfB Stuttgart has to do without an important regular in the duel around the Franz Beckenbauer supercup. Goalkeeper Alexander Nübel is not available against Bayern Munich on Saturday evening (8.30 p.m. in the live ticker on T-Online). The 28-year-old is missing due to an elbow injury, as the club announced. For him, Fabian Bredlow will stand in the Swabian goal.
With regard to the Bundesliga start, coach Sebastian Hoeneß was confident: It was “carefully optimistic” that Nübel could be completely started again in the coming week, the VfB coach said on Thursday. If that is the case, he could play against Union Berlin the next but one. The goalkeeper is loaned by Bayern to Stuttgart by summer 2026, and his contract in Munich runs until 2029.
Meanwhile, there is good news from Angelo Stiller. The midfielder, who had recently failed with a ligament injury in the ankle, is ready for the game against the record champion. “He is fit and can play,” said Hoeneß. Stiller missed some units and two test games, but the coach emphasized that he was trusting the 23-year-old, even without full preparation “to play at a top level immediately”.
The duel against the German champion is of great importance for Hoeneß and his team. You want to get the title, the coach said – despite the strength of the opponent: “This is a game against undoubtedly the best team in Germany, one of the best teams in Europe.” Opportunities are still calculated, even if it is necessary to grow beyond themselves. “But we will be ready,” emphasized Hoeneß.
Last year, VfB lost the Supercup in the penalty shootout against Bayer Leverkusen. The only title win in this competition was achieved in 1993. The Munich team has won the trophy ten times so far – and won 14 of the past 15 competitive games against VfB. So the signs are clear.
