VfB Stuttgart gives Wahid Faghir to Nordjaelland – Maxime Awoudja is also leaving

To Nordsjaelland and Excelsior

While the transfer window in the top 5 European leagues only closes on Thursday, clubs from the Netherlands and Denmark, among others, had their last chance for newcomers on Wednesday evening. FC Nordsjaelland and Excelsior Rotterdam took advantage of this to strike at VfB Stuttgart. Wahid Faghir joins the Superligaen for a season on loan, while Maxime Awoudja is a permanent fixture in the Eredivisie.

Center forward Faghir came to the Swabians from Vejle Boldklub in 2021 when he was just 18 for 3.5 million euros and made seven appearances for the professionals in his first season. He scored his only goal in the 1-1 draw against Union Berlin on matchday 9 before being thrown out of rhythm by a corona disease and a meniscus injury.

“Match practice is very important for Wahid’s further development. FC Nordsjaelland offers him that opportunity at an ambitious club in a challenging league. We will follow Wahid’s path closely in the coming months and wish him and FC Nordsjaelland a successful season,” said sporting director Sven Mislintat, looking ahead to the one-year loan. Faghir’s contract with VfB runs until 2026.

VfB Stuttgart: Maxime Awoudja moves to Excelsior Rotterdam

Awoudja will not return to Stuttgart next year. The central defender, who was brought from the Bayern youth team in 2019 and has been on loan to Türkgücü Munich and WSG Tirol for the past year and a half, will join Excelsior Rotterdam for a year with an option for another season. For Stuttgart he was only used for the reserve.

Mislintat on the departure: “During his time at VfB, Maxime had to struggle with bad luck with injuries and was therefore unable to assert himself as hoped. Due to the competitive situation, it would not have been easy for him to work regularly with us in the future either. Against this background, the move to Rotterdam is a very sensible solution for everyone involved. We thank Maxime for our time together and wish him all the best for the future.”
