During the sporting heights, VfB Stuttgart is also pushing ahead with its personnel planning. Three top performers are particularly in focus. In one case in particular there is a risk of complicated million dollar poker.
As the “Stuttgarter Nachrichten” reports, new national player Chris Führich, midfielder Enzo Millot and defense chief Waldemar Anton are to extend their contracts with VfB, which do not expire until 2025.
The paper speculates that concrete talks could take place by the end of the year, i.e. within the next two months.
An important point that will of course come to the table is the financial aspect of the trio’s possible new working papers.
Führich and Millot are currently not among the top earners in the VfB Stuttgart squad and their salaries are reportedly well below the two million euro limit. When it comes to adjusting the salary, there is still room for maneuver for the two professionals who were hired in the country in the summer of 2021.
VfB Stuttgart: No financial leeway with Waldemar Anton?
Things should look different in the Anton case. The 27-year-old central defender, who has been a fixture at VfB for much longer than Führich and Millot, is expected to earn more than two million euros per year since his last contract extension in November 2021. This sum should form the threshold for the highest-paid players in the Swabians’ squad.
If those responsible in Stuttgart do not want to over-inflate the salary structure, they will not be able to present Anton with a significantly improved offer in the upcoming contract talks from a purely economic perspective.
After all: When it comes to sport, the VfB bosses currently have some arguments on their side. With six wins and only one defeat, the almost relegated team from last season is currently sensationally in second place in the Bundesliga.
Stuttgart may be able to lure Führich, Millot and Anton with the prospect of international football.
