VfB Stuttgart: Darmstadt 98 signs Matej Maglica on loan

“Qualities proven”

Defender Matej Maglica (25) will stay with Bundesliga promoted team Darmstadt 98 beyond the summer. As the “Lilien” announced on Monday evening, the loan from league rivals VfB Stuttgart will be moving permanently to the Hessians after the end of the season. Maglica’s contract in Darmstadt will be valid until 2027.

“Matej has proven his qualities and shown that he can still develop further with us. We are pleased that he has integrated so well and that he is meeting our sporting expectations,” said Darmstadt’s sports director Carsten Wehlmann, commenting on Maglica’s permanent commitment. The Croatian was one of the winners in the Bundesliga’s most recent market value update, going from 500,000 euros to 1.5 million euros.

“Since day one, I have felt completely at home with the lilies and felt the great appreciation of those responsible. I am happy that my path here in Darmstadt will continue beyond the current season,” said Maglica. The defender has appeared in nine out of ten possible competitive games for the “Lilien” to date; he was only missing on matchday 5 against his parent club VfB due to a red card suspension. He was sent off again on Saturday in the 8-0 defeat in Munich.
