Stuttgart trio goes
Sporting loanees Tiago Tomás (20), Tanguy Coulibaly (22) and Antonis Aidonis (22) will leave VfB Stuttgart as expected at the end of the season. The Swabians officially confirmed this on Thursday. While attacker Tomás’ anchored purchase option of 15 million euros will not be exercised, the expiring contracts of winger Coulibaly and defender Aidonis will not be renewed.

“We have decided not to activate the agreed purchase option for Tiago. This is primarily due to financial reasons. From a sporting point of view, Tiago was a very important player for us, and his performances in the past two seasons played a big part in VfB being able to stay in class. We wish him all the best for the next steps in his career and would like to thank him for his performance in the VfB jersey,” said sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth. Tomás, who scored eight goals in 47 games for Stuttgart in a year and a half, is being courted by VfL Wolfsburg.

Coulibaly leaves VfB after 74 professional games (six goals). “Tanguy was here for four years, he went from being a youngster to a seasoned professional at VfB and took responsibility for the team in the closing stages of last season when he converted a penalty against Gladbach in a very difficult situation. We would like to thank him not only for that and wish him every success at his new club,” said Wohlgemuth, who added with a view to homegrown Aidonis: “Toni was part of VfB for a long time, both in the youth division and later with the U21s and in the Bundesliga professional squad. We thank Toni for our time together and wish him all the best for the future.”
