In Liverpool Endo would meet coach Jürgen Klopp, whose Reds have recently had problems signing the desired players for midfield. Moisés Caicedo (21) moved to Chelsea FC with exclusive bonuses for 116 million euros, Roméo Lavia (19) will probably go the same way for a fee of between 60 million and 70 million euros. Endo, according to Romano, costs Liverpool significantly less, but at 18 million euros it is still well above market value. In the list of the most expensive departures from VfB, the “six” would be in fifth place, level with Sasa Kalajdzic (26), who switched to the “Wolves” last summer.

Endo was only confirmed as captain of the Swabians a few days ago. “He’s our face, an absolute warrior,” coach Sebastian Hoeneß said. Endo scored 4-0 in the first round of the DFB Cup at fourth division club TSG Balingen, and his contract ends in the summer of 2024. The club actually tried to get an extension. “If we want to strengthen the identity of our team, we need unsellable assets,” sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth said.

Endo switched from Belgian club VV St. Truiden to VfB in the summer of 2019. Since then, the 30-year-old midfielder has played 132 games for the Swabians and in the meantime has increased his market value almost tenfold.
