Bruno Labbadia is apparently no longer the head coach at VfB Stuttgart, which is threatened with relegation.
This is reported by the TV station “Sky”. Accordingly, Labbadia was informed of the decision on Monday afternoon in a personal conversation.
In addition to the 57-year-old ex-professional, CEO Alexander Wehrle and sports director Fabian Wohlgemuth also took part.
According to media reports, both had also met on Sunday, one day after the nasty 0: 3 smack at Union Berlin, together with President Claus Vogt and member of the Executive Committee Rainer Adrion.
A decision on the question of coaching had not yet been made. This hit the VfB bosses with a further 24-hour delay.
It is still unclear who will inherit Labbadia in Stuttgart. Markus Gisdol and Felix Magath, who were traded over the weekend, should not be an issue internally.
It is also unlikely that U19 coach Nico Willig will be promoted. Prominent candidates such as Ralph Hasenhüttl, Adi Hütter and ex-coach Hannes Wolf are said to have canceled VfB.
VfB Stuttgart: Three realistic coach candidates left?
The former Stuttgart professionals Ludovic Magnin (FC Lausanne-Sport) and Alexander Blessin (most recently FC Genoa) are still considered realistic options. The 49-year-old would be available immediately, just like Robert Klauß (last 1. FC Nürnberg) because he is without a club.
According to reports, after the major failure with Labbadia, VfB is not looking for a “fireman” for the coaching position, but for a coach who will do long-term development work in Stuttgart and would also go with the club to the 2nd Bundesliga.
Labbadia’s dismissal comes as no surprise: in eleven games under his direction, VfB only won once and fell to the bottom of the table. The gap to 15th place is already five points.
