VfB Stuttgart | Alleged dream coach expresses interest in Swabia

Alongside Jess Thorup from Denmark, Alfred Schreuder is said to be one of the two ideal solutions for the post of VfB Stuttgart head coach. The 49-year-old is currently coaching Dutch record champions Ajax Amsterdam, but has been associated with a return to the Bundesliga since last weekend. Now Schreuder himself spoke about the VfB rumours.

The former head coach of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, where he worked as the main coach in the 2019/2020 season, was asked about the speculation from Stuttgart ahead of the Eredivisie game KRC Waalwijk against Ajax Amsterdam that he could succeed the sacked Pellegrino Matarazzo .

“I also noticed that with Stuttgart. I should have been on a list there too,” said Schreuder at the matchday press conference about the reports from Germany.

At the same time, Julian Nagelsmann’s former assistant coach made it clear: “I’m at Ajax. It’s a fantastic club. I’m having a good time here.”

Schreuder: So far no contact with VfB Stuttgart

Even these statements by the football teacher sounded like a very clear rejection in the direction of VfB Stuttgart. When asked if no one from the Bundesliga club threatened with relegation had reported so far, Schreuder replied clearly: “No.”

So far, that doesn’t sound like an early farewell to the leaders of the Dutch elite class for 14th in the Bundesliga.

Schreuder got off to a good start with Ajax Amsterdam. From the first ten games of the season with the defending champions, he scored 25 points as head coach and ranks first in the tableau ahead of PSV Eindhoven.

In the summer, Schreuder took over from champion coach Erik ten Hag, who is known to have moved to Manchester United in the Premier League.
