VfB instead of VfL: Werder Bremen’s Badjie returns to Oldenburg

“Extremely talented player”

Third division promoted VfB Oldenburg has strengthened their squad for the coming season with Kebba Badjie from SV Werder Bremen. Both clubs announced the transfer without going into details on Wednesday. For the Lower Saxony, the 22-year-old offensive all-rounder from Gambia is the fifth new signing for the coming season.

“We are very happy that the signing worked out. Kebba is an extremely talented player who can be used flexibly offensively and who has already proven his class. We are therefore convinced that he can help us immediately,” said Sebastian Schachten, sporting director of VfB.

Oldenburg already knows Badjie from his time at local rivals VfL, for whom he contributed nine goals and three assists in the Regionalliga Nord in 2018/19 and thus played his way into Werder’s notebooks. For the Green-Whites, who last loaned him to Hallesche FC, he made 32 appearances for the second team (16 goals/five assists) and was in the professional squad when the second division opened in July 2021.
