They’re the 1990’s generation easy power punks on duty. Blink-182 from (of course!!) California. After a fight and splitting of the original cast, they have now found each other again – and hug each other on social media.
The American Hard & Heavy online forum “Loudwire” refers to a touching aspect of the band’s history, which is not always easy: Blink 182 returnee Tom DeLonge attaches importance to emphasizing that Matt Skiba, who filled his gap in the band after his last Separation from the band bravely concluded is also appropriately acknowledged.
In 2015, as is well known, there was a violent fight between DeLonge and the other two band members. His outside activities slammed into Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker’s tour and album plans.
At the time, Hoppus and Barker, frustrated, turned to Alkaline Trio frontman Matt Skiba to fill in for DeLonge, as they had already signed several live engagements.
This “fill-in” status became permanent as more shows were booked and the trio began working on new music. Skiba appeared on both the California and Nine albums in the years that followed. In early 2022, the first rumors about a return from DeLonge. The “placeholder” suddenly wasn’t sure about his status in the band anymore.
With the announcement earlier this week that Hoppus, DeLonge and Barker would be touring together again, Skiba was suddenly out. He’s also no longer part of Blink’s future plans.
DeLonge has now written an open letter to Skiba, in which he thanks him – also via Twitter and Co – for his time with the group, and tells the fans:
“I sent this to Matt personally, but it’s important for the world to know that I honor him. Thank you, @matttskiba.”
Skiba has to decide for himself whether that’s the end of the callous dismissal. Ultimately, it’s also about a lot of money.
