Very strong gusts of wind on Friday: ‘Storm Eunice is going to get serious’

Storm Dudley already caused nuisance in Brabant on Wednesday and Thursday, but a much bigger problem awaits Friday: storm Eunice. Meteorologist Raymond Klaassen of Weerplaza expects even heavier gusts of wind and, as a result, many problems. He therefore does not rule out a weather alert from the KNMI. “I warn people from Brabant: take this seriously.” And he doesn’t say that easily, Klaassen explains.

“Trees will blow over, roof tiles fly away, you name it. I also expect a lot of problems on the road: people should absolutely not drive with empty trailers. This weather is really completely unsuitable for that.”

Klaassen continues: “I sometimes hear: the soup is never eaten as hot when it is served. Well, Eunice is already very hot soup. I therefore say to all journalists: make it clear to the public that Eunice is more intense than Dudley.”

Storm Dudley also caused the necessary storm damage in various places in the province. According to Klaassen, the damage to Eunice will be greater on Friday afternoon.

The KNMI has therefore issued a code yellow. According to Klaassen, that will change quickly. “We at Weerplaza assume that it will be scaled up to code orange later this Thursday. Perhaps code red, that can be honestly not ruled out.”

Friday afternoon Eunice will travel across the country. “Most of the wind will be near the coastal areas and in the north, but Brabant will definitely notice it. The peak of the storm for Brabant is somewhere in the second half of the afternoon,” says Klaassen.

Then you will get wind force 7 throughout Brabant. These are wind gusts of 80 to 100 kilometers per hour. Wind force 8 is possible in the west of the province, with gusts of more than 100 kilometers per hour.

“For comparison: last night the wind gusts were a maximum of 80 kilometers per hour. Again, that is a completely different matter. The weather will become a little less violent towards the evening, but the storm will continue into the night on Friday.”
