Very large fire in the Peel nature park in the Netherlands | Abroad

In the meantime, a third platoon has been called in to fight wildfires. A specialized team from Overijssel, among others, is on its way to the fire. Several fire stations in the region are on standby. The Safety Region asks the emergency services to clear the area. “Don’t come to the incident,” it reads.

The fire started around 6.30 am and rages near the border with Brabant. It is still unclear how the fire started. The smoke can be seen from afar.

In 2020, a fire raged a few kilometers away in the same area that proved difficult to fight. The fire smoldered underground for weeks. The so-called Peel fire ultimately reduced 800 hectares of nature reserve to ashes.

It was the largest wildfire in the Netherlands ever. The consequences of the fire, which broke out on April 20, were enormous.
