A very large fire is raging in a firelighter factory in Oisterwijk in North Brabant, the safety region reported Monday. Train traffic between Tilburg and Boxtel has been shut down.
The fire broke out in the night from Sunday to Monday and was extinguished, but flared up again on Monday morning. Around 9 a.m., flames erupted from the roof of the factory.
A lot of smoke is released during the fire. People in the area are advised to close windows and doors and switch off the ventilation.
No one was injured. The fire brigade is doing its utmost to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading. Halfway through the morning, the security region reported that more material had been deployed to get the fire under control. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
There are extinguishing hoses over the railway near the fire, because extra water is taken from a nearby waterway there. As a result, no trains run between Tilburg and Boxtel. The NS is therefore deploying extra buses. The carrier expects the disruption to last until about 12:30 p.m.
According to Broadcasting Brabant this isn’t the first time a fire has broken out at the Fire-Up factory. The factory was already on fire in 2013 and in September 2019 there were four fires in a few days.
