Very large fire at a waste processing company in Amsterdam

The fire brigade was called out on Friday evening for a fire at a waste processing company on the Sicilyweg in the Westelijk Havengebied in Amsterdam. Initially, around 11 p.m., the fire was scaled up to a ‘large fire’, but an hour later the fire brigade called it a ‘very large fire’. Such a report means that the fire brigade is on site with many vehicles.

With two fireboats from the Port Authority and an extinguishing robot, we succeeded in preventing the fire from spreading further.

The fire brigade said that the fire has spread to an ‘adjacent building’ and that a lot of water is needed to extinguish the fire. The extent of the damage is still unclear. The cause of the fire must also be investigated.
