According to initial reports, the driver was alone in the car during the crash. He arrived safely on the side of the Zoetermeerse Rijweg, where the accident took place. A bystander reportedly went back into the car to turn off the engine because it was still running while the vehicle was in the water. That causes a lot of smoke above the ditch.
It is probably a McLaren 570s, a car with a new price of around 250,000 euros. The driver is said to have bought it second hand. Images show that the car has sustained significant damage. A headlight, among other things, was destroyed.
The vehicle is removed from the water by a police rescuer.
