Waar Is De Mol is a program in which famous Dutch people leave for a destination abroad of their choice, together with presenter Johnny de Mol. Well, self-selected… According to Britt Dekker, that’s not quite right, and she should know. She was a guest in one of the episodes in 2019.

Not to South Africa

How did that process go? Britt tells in This Was Het Nieuws: “It actually goes like this: you can choose your favorite country and I really wanted to go to South Africa. Then they said, “That’s not allowed,” so I said, “Yeah, but the format is you go somewhere you like, isn’t it?” Then I threw up Curacao, but that was not allowed either.”

She continues: “Then I went on with Madagascar, but then they said, ‘No.’ Then I hung up and they called back and they said, ‘You know what you like? Chernobyl!’ I still remember where I stood. I said, ‘Chernobyl? I don’t like that at all!’ ‘Yes.’ I said, ‘Why are you coming to Chernobyl?’ ‘Yeah, there you have all these sick animals running around everywhere.’”

Quarrel with Johnny

In the end, Britt did it anyway. “I have been there. There I had a really bad fight with Johnny, Johnny de Mol. It is very intense.”

Unlike Britt, Johnny wanted to go deeper and deeper into the radiation area, because that would make for nice TV. However, Britt didn’t like that. “It was fun until we went to that nuclear power plant. Johnny wanted to go further and the meter went off faster and faster and I just wanted to go back.”
