“I don’t understand why you have to risk so much on the first lap” Max reprimanded the Mercedes driver
“It’s easy to explain with the onboard camera, saying that it has blocked, but it doesn’t make sense to me,” insists the World Cup leader
At the end of the sprint race in Baku, in the parc fermé, Max Verstappen looked askance at the tremendous hole in the side of his Red Bull after touching George Russell at the start. The Dutchman, who despite everything managed to finish third on the podium ahead of the British Mercedes driver, went straight to look for his rival and openly reprimanded him in front of the cameras, to make it clear that he was not according to his risky maneuver and even less in the first round.
“I have not clarified the issue with George,” he later told reporters. “I don’t understand why you have to risk so much on the first lap. He understeered against my car, we are all on cold tires and in these conditions it is easy to block. It is easy to explain with the onboard camera, saying that he has blocked, but he has no sense for me”, has commented Verstappen, very angry.
Max has revealed that “there is no damage to the car after hitting the wall, but from the touch in the second corner (with Russell). There is a hole in the sidepod, it does not look good, but it is what it is and we will focus on tomorrow’s race. Even so, we finished third, which are good points for the championship”, concluded the World Championship leader.
