Verstappen races to fifth victory in the season in Baku

Max Verstappen has done the job he couldn’t finish last year. The world champion triumphed in his Red Bull in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. He recorded his fifth win of the season and cemented his leadership position in the Formula 1 championship.

The Dutchman took full advantage of the double bad luck at his rivals from Ferrari. Charles Leclerc had to retire after 21 of the 51 laps on the Baku street circuit with a broken engine. The Monegask was in the lead at that time. Carlos Sainz had to park his Ferrari to the side after 10 laps with a broken brake system.

Last year, Verstappen was comfortably in the lead in Baku, when he retired with a blowout five laps before the end. Teammate Sergio Pérez then drove to victory.
