January 15 – 7.34pm – VIAREGGIO

Formula One world champion Max Verstappen made himself… the boat. Not a simple gozzo to go fishing, but a splendid 33 meter jewel, a new generation yacht that the pilot had booked two years ago. The launch took place in the area that the Overmarine shipyard has in the port of Viareggio, in a very muffled atmosphere, with tight-lipped company management and a security service that gave little or nothing to the curious. Mid-morning in the seaside district of Darsena, the presence of a series of cars with tinted windows made one think of a “big event”: said and done, given that Max Verstappen, with his girlfriend Kelly Piquet and some of his collaborators wanted attend the launch of the Mangusta series yacht, a “Super sport 33”, 33 meters long. The Dutch champion has decided to christen it with the name “Unleash the Lion”, he unleashes the lion, that is, the brand that supports him in all his activities, sporting and otherwise.

MEETING

The rest of the launch day – Max Verstappen wore white trousers and a blue jacket – was a brief meeting with the staff and company management of the Overmarine shipyard, led by the family of the late Giuseppe Balducci, then lunch in an exclusive and armored room of Versilia. It remains to be seen, if anything, whether the “Unleash the Lion” will continue to remain in Viareggio, or will be moved to some Dutch port. Certainly, the name of Max Verstappen extends the list not only of sports figures (Cristiano Ronaldo, Roberto Mancini, the president of Manchester City, Mansour) but also of world entrepreneurs (Murdoch above all) who in the new millennium have chosen the Viareggio shipyards to purchase a yacht from Arabian Nights, never paying attention to the costs, but aiming for the excellence of the interiors and technology.
