Max Verstappen set the fourth fastest time in the second free practice for the Grand Prix of Great Britain on Friday. Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz was fastest at Silverstone.
In contrast to the first free practice, which largely fell into the water due to rainfall, the drivers were able to drive a lot of laps in the second practice. The 24-year-old Verstappen recorded a time of 1.29.149, with which he had to tolerate three other drivers.
Sainz was the only one to dive under the minute 29 seconds on the dried-up track. The Spaniard clocked a time of 1.28.942 and thus kept Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton (1.29.105) and Lando Norris of McLaren (1.29.118) behind him.
The top five was completed by Charles Leclerc. Ferrari’s Monegask was a bit slower than Verstappen, who currently has a 49-point lead over Leclerc.
The second training was free from major incidents. Only Norris had some problems at a pit stop when mechanics were unable to get the tires on his car properly. In the first practice there was another red flag due to a spin from Lance Stroll.
The third free practice for the Grand Prix of Great Britain starts on Saturday at 1 p.m. Qualifying starts three hours later at Silverstone. The race is also scheduled for 4 p.m. on Sunday.
